The Ground Within is a seven-day women’s wellness journey through two of Costa Rica’s most powerful landscapes: the volcanic wilderness of Rincón de la Vieja in Guanacaste, and the world-renowned Blue Zone of the Nicoya Peninsula. Two territories. Two moments in the same inner journey.

What This Journey Offers
Over seven days, you will move through some of the most alive places on earth — volcanic forest, thermal waters, jungle, and ocean. Every experience in the land is woven together with an inner practice: women’s circles, intuitive writing, breathwork, movement, astrology, lunar cycles, and ritual. Not as concepts to understand, but as doorways to walk through.
You will have depth. And you will have joy. Because both are how we find our way back.
The Landscapes
The journey begins at Borinquen Thermal Resort, at the edge of Rincón de la Vieja Volcano — a place of ancient forests, healing thermal waters, waterfalls, and volcanic earth that naturally invites grounding and transformation. Here, you go inward: you look, you remember, you release.
Midway through, the journey shifts to Azul Retreat Hotel on Playa Azul, a beachfront sanctuary nestled in the Nicoya Peninsula Blue Zone — one of the world’s regions recognized for longevity, wellbeing, and a slower, more intentional way of living. Here, you open: you listen, you ask, you receive.
What You Will Experience
Nature takes you places that words don’t reach. The week includes a waterfall hike through forest, volcanic mud and thermal pools, zipline above the jungle with the volcano as witness, a catamaran on the Pacific, a Blue Zone kitchen class with the flavors of a place that knows how to live, and unstructured time at the beach — to walk the shore, read in a hammock, or simply sit with the water.
Woven through each day: women’s circles and shared meals, guided inner sessions with tools such as astrology, intuitive writing, tarot, movement, and a moon cycle manifesting ritual. Every evening ends in the company of women living the same experience.
Your Guides
Sylvia Chaves, founder of Joy Costa Rica, has spent over 20 years creating meaningful travel experiences. Her own healing journey led her to the world of wellness and holistic living, and Joy Costa Rica was born from that transformation.
Catalina Calvo is a Costa Rican astrologer, yogi, performing artist, and women’s journey facilitator. She designed The Ground Within as the journey she would offer her closest friends: to show them her country, and to do the inner work she has never stopped doing.
